Teen arrested for harassing schoolgirl in Salah Al-Din, authorities say
SALAH AL-DIN — Police in Salah Al-Din governorate announced Monday the arrest of a teenage suspect accused of harassing a minor schoolgirl as she left her school.
Authorities said the suspect, born in 2009, was apprehended after being identified through security camera footage and confessed to the act.
Police said patrols from the Sharqat Police Department received a report about a person following and assaulting a schoolgirl. The girl’s mother filed a formal complaint, stating that her daughter was harassed while returning from school.
Investigators reviewed security footage, identified the suspect, M.A.A., and arrested him. Police said, “Confronted with evidence, the suspect openly admitted to committing the criminal act,” adding that the bicycle used during the incident was also seized.
A judge ordered the suspect’s detention under Article 396 of the Iraqi Penal Code, and legal procedures are underway.
The Salah Al-Din Police Command said it “will remain the vigilant eye protecting the security and stability of the governorate and will continue pursuing anyone who dares to harm our students — the future of Iraq.”
Separately, on April 16, Fallujah Mayor Faisal Khaled Al-Aifan directed police patrols to increase security presence near high schools and secondary schools during school hours to prevent harassment or disturbances around educational institutions.
