Iraqi and Iranian foreign ministers discuss Gaza war and humanitarian aid
BAGHDAD, October 19 — Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein stated on Thursday that the widening of the war in Gaza poses a threat to the entire region’s security. During a meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Hussein Amir-Abdollahian, in Jeddah, he emphasized the necessity of protecting Palestinian civilians and an immediate cessation of hostilities.
The statement from the foreign ministries regarding the ministers’ meeting, as reported by Network 964, read:
“Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, discussed with Iranian Foreign Minister, Mr. Hussein Amir Abdollahian, the efforts to halt the war in Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid to the region.
This discussion took place on the sidelines of the extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee of the Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, held to address the Israeli military aggression against the Palestinian people. The meeting was held on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at the organization’s headquarters in Jeddah.
Minister Hussein emphasized that all efforts should be focused on ending the war and protecting civilians, highlighting the danger of the conflict’s expansion to the security of the entire region.”
