Low-pressure system brings cloud cover, light rain, and dust storms across Iraq

BAGHDAD — A relatively dry low-pressure system from the Arabian Peninsula is affecting weather across Iraq, bringing partly cloudy skies and chances of light rain with thunder in the northern, central, and southern regions, the country’s Meteorological Authority reported Monday.

Southern cities are expected to see temperatures rise by two to three degrees Celsius compared to the previous day, while other regions will experience similar conditions with a slight warming trend. Daytime temperatures will remain relatively warm, with cold conditions expected at night.

Southeasterly winds are blowing at moderate speeds of 10 to 20 kilometers per hour across most of the country. However, winds are expected to intensify in western and southwestern areas, where gusts may reach up to 40 kilometers per hour — potentially causing dust and sandstorms.

In affected areas, horizontal visibility may drop to between four and six kilometers, the authority said.
