Baghdad outlines Eid Al-Fitr security plan, bans motorcycles in busy markets

BAGHDAD — Baghdad Operations Command on Thursday unveiled its security plan for Eid Al-Fitr, announcing measures to ensure public safety and protect markets, parks, and places of worship during the holiday period.

In a statement, the command said security forces will intensify their presence in crowded areas, ban motorcycles and horse-drawn carts from entering busy markets, and avoid closing roads except when necessary. Officials also emphasized accommodating media crews covering Eid celebrations.

The plan includes deploying additional patrols, fire and ambulance units near public spaces, stepping up hotel and entertainment venue monitoring, and using plainclothes intelligence teams to address any security concerns.

The first day of Eid Al-Fitr is expected to fall on Sunday or Monday, depending on the sighting of the moon. Eid Al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, during which Muslims fast from dawn until sunset. Iraq has declared a weeklong public holiday to observe the occasion.
