Iraq wraps up training in Basra, heads to Jordan for World Cup qualifier against Palestine
BASRA — Iraq’s national soccer team finished its final training session in Basra on Sunday before traveling to Jordan to face Palestine in the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Iraq Football Association said.
According to the association’s statement, the team trained Sunday morning, then departed Basra for Amman in the afternoon. Another session is scheduled for Monday at 8:30 p.m. at Amman International Stadium. Head coach Jesús Casas will hold a pre-match press conference earlier that day at 4:30 p.m. at the Hilton Hotel in Amman.
Iraq takes on Palestine on Tuesday, March 25, at Amman International Stadium, with kickoff set for 9:15 p.m. local time. Iraq drew its last match, against Kuwait, thanks to a late rally from 2-0 down.
Heading into Tuesday’s game, Iraq sits in third place in Group B with 12 points from seven matches, while Palestine is in sixth place with just three points.
