Electricity worker dies after electrocution, colleague injured

DUHOK — An electricity worker in Batifa District lost his life after being electrocuted on the job, and a colleague sustained injuries, local police said.

On Monday night around 10 p.m., two electricity workers went to repair a cable on a power pole when an unexpected electrical surge caused both to fall, resulting in severe injuries.

Ahmed Ramadan, spokesperson for Zakho police, told 964media that one worker, identified as 45-year-old Mohammed Hassan, succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital.

Hassan was electrocuted when a wire he was handling came into contact with a national power line, causing a fatal shock.

The second worker remains under medical supervision at Zakho Emergency Hospital. “He is receiving treatment, and efforts are being made for his recovery,” Ramadan added.
