Chamchamal ramps up business inspections, closes multiple establishments

CHAMCHAMAL – Authorities in Chamchamal, Sulaymaniyah, on Tuesday shut down two businesses and fined four others for failing to comply with official and health guidelines, according to the Chamchamal district administration.

A joint committee conducted the inspections, focusing on restaurants, cafés and markets. Officials said the crackdown has intensified with the start of Ramadan, as teams patrol both during the day and at night to monitor food establishments, markets and public spaces.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is observed by Muslims worldwide as a period of fasting from dawn to sunset.

Overall, authorities in Sulaymaniyah closed 21 businesses last month for regulatory violations, referred three owners to court and confiscated more than 36 tons of food, according to official data.
