Iraqi interior minister stresses the threat of drug crimes to the nation

ERBIL, October 15 — The Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, stated today, Sunday, that drug crimes are among the most dangerous offenses threatening the Iraqi state. He made this declaration during his participation in the “Combatting Drugs and Psychoactive Substances” conference held in Erbil.

A statement from the Minister’s press office, received by Network 964, read:

“Minister of Interior emphasizes that the ministry has received unlimited support from the Prime Minister, who also serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, in the fight against drugs.

The Minister of Interior, Mr. Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, stressed that drug crimes are one of the most important and perilous offenses that threaten the Iraqi state. He emphasized that they are a top priority for the specialized executive officials responsible for the country’s security affairs.

His statements were made during his participation in the conference held on Sunday in the city of Erbil under the auspices of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq, with the title “Combatting Drugs and Psychoactive Substances.” The Minister also pointed out that drugs have permeated various aspects of modern societies due to their negative effects and destructive impacts on all facets of social, economic, political, and security life.

Furthermore, during his speech, the Minister emphasized that the Ministry of Interior, as the primary authority responsible for countering this major crime, has received limitless support from the Prime Minister, who also serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
