Three day closure ordered

Zakho store shut down for fake discounts on clothing

ZAKHO — Authorities in Zakho, Duhok Governorate, have shut down a clothing store after it was found to have misled customers by inflating prices before applying supposed discounts, according to the city’s commercial inspection department.

The store had advertised large discounts on clothing, attracting a large number of shoppers. However, customers later discovered that had prices been raised before the discount was applied, resulting in higher final prices than before the promotion.

According to Zakho’s commercial inspection department, if an item was originally priced at 100,000 IQD ($67), it was marked as 300,000 IQD ($200) before being “discounted” to 110,000 IQD ($73), effectively making it more expensive than before the sale.

Kovan Avdel, head of Zakho’s commercial inspection department, told 964media, “This is not the first time. The store owner had been previously warned about price manipulation and fraudulent practices but failed to comply. As a result, the store will be shut down for three days, and a strict warning has been issued.”
