Halabja artist overcomes challenges to pursue passion for painting
HALABJA — Born without the ability to speak, Binaei Moatasem defied expectations to complete her primary and secondary education and graduate from the Institute of Fine Arts in Halabja with a degree in painting.
Despite her disability, Binaei’s early talent in painting and drawing shone through, buoyed by the unwavering support of her family. Her father, Moatasem Haji Ata Bamoki, an imam and preacher in their village of Bamok, and her supportive mother often accompanied her to the institute.
With their backing, Binaei enrolled in the painting department at the Fine Arts Institute and graduated with high marks in 2016. Since then, she has dedicated herself to painting and sewing at home, steadily building her reputation despite the challenges of breaking into the art world.
Over the years, Binaei has participated in several local exhibitions, showcasing her work to a wider audience and gradually earning recognition for her creative vision.
“Binaei was born with special needs, but God gave her a sharp intellect and remarkable talent,” her father told 964media. “She always loved art, especially painting.” He added that her artistic skills extend beyond painting to calligraphy and sewing, and he praised her warm, kind approach when interacting with people.
Moatasem Haji Ata Bamoki urged authorities and organizations to support his daughter by providing opportunities for further development in her artistic career. His plea reflects a broader call for community and institutional backing for talented individuals facing unique challenges.
