Speeding vehicle overturns in Basra, killing passenger

BASRA – A vehicle overturned Tuesday near Bridge 22 in North Rumaila, Basra Governorate, resulting in the death of a young passenger and injuries to the driver, local authorities reported.

A security source told 964media, “The accident led to the death of the passenger and injuries to the driver.”

The crash damaged approximately 10 meters of the roadside safety barrier. The vehicle was traveling toward the Companies’ Complex when the left front tire burst, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle veered to the right and overturned onto the dirt shoulder of the highway.

“The driver bears full responsibility for the accident due to the vehicle’s lack of proper durability and safety conditions,” the source added.

A incident drawing was prepared and handed over to the North Rumaila Police Station. The injured driver was transported to the hospital for treatment, while authorities have initiated an investigation to determine further details surrounding the incident.
