And import decline
Egg prices soar in Kurdistan due to currency exchange rate fluctuations
ERBIL, October 8 — Egg prices in the Kurdistan region have increased by 13,000 Iraqi dinars per box due to fluctuations in the exchange rate of the US dollar and a decrease in the quantity imported from Turkey, according to the Market Monitoring Committee.
Younis Mustafa, a grocery store owner, told Network 964:
“The price of Turkish egg cartons has risen from 55,000 to 68,000 dinars, and the local egg carton price has gone up from 56,000 to 69,000 dinars.”
Food prices are rising day by day, causing losses, and we cannot sell products at a fixed price for two days due to dollar fluctuations.
Wilat Hajar, the head of the Market Committee, stated:
“We understand the seriousness of this increase, not only with eggs but also with poultry, and the reason is the dollar exchange rate.”
“We are monitoring the market, and as soon as the dollar decreases, food prices should immediately decrease,” she added. Another reason for the egg price hike is the decrease in the import percentage from Turkey.
