Thousands of dollars in losses

Fire destroys home in Tuz Khurmatu due to electrical short circuit

TUZ KHURMATU – A fire caused by an electrical short circuit severely damaged a residential home in Tuz Khurmatu’s Komari neighborhood on Tuesday, resulting in financial losses estimated at approximately $20,000.

Nihad Ali, the homeowner, told 964media that he and his family were away on a trip to Baghdad when they received a call notifying them that their house had caught fire.

“The upper floor of our house, along with a large stock of car spare parts stored there, was engulfed in flames,” Ali said. “Civil defense teams managed to control the fire, but the damage is extensive, with losses nearing $20,000.”

Ali Farouq, Director of Civil Defense in Tuz Khurmatu, confirmed to 964media that the cause of the fire was an electrical short circuit. He explained that several batteries stored in the house exploded, fueling the flames.

“The fire spread rapidly, consuming all the stored goods due to the presence of flammable materials,” Farouq added.

The house belonged to a resident who also runs a business dealing in car spare parts and batteries, many of which were stored on the upper floor of the property.
