First-grade student dies after being hit by speeding vehicle in Muthanna
MUTHANNA — A first-grade student lost her life in a traffic incident in Al-Warka district, Muthanna, after being struck by a speeding vehicle while crossing the street in front of Aba Dhar Primary School.
The young girl was carried to the hospital by her sister, who studies at the same school, crying, “My sister is dead,” in a scene that deeply affected the hospital staff.
A Medical Source at Al-Warka Hospital told 964media, “The injured child arrived in critical condition at the emergency department, carried by her older sister.’”
The child sustained severe head and abdominal injuries and was suffering from heavy bleeding.
Despite immediate medical intervention, the hospital staff were unable to save her, as she succumbed to the severe internal bleeding caused by her injuries.
Traffic accidents remain a significant concern in Iraq. In 2023, the country, excluding the Kurdistan Region, recorded 11,552 traffic accidents, resulting in 3,019 fatalities and 12,314 injuries. This marked a slight increase from 2022, which saw 11,523 accidents and 3,021 deaths. Driver error accounted for approximately 79% of these incidents, with vehicle-related issues and poor road conditions contributing to the remainder.
