Mosul’s Old Bridge reopens after three-month closure for maintenance

MOSUL — The Old Bridge in Mosul officially reopened on Saturday after being closed for three months due to maintenance work. The bridge, located in the city center, connects the areas of Al-Maidan, Bab Al-Saray, and the Corniche on Mosul’s western flank with Al-Faisaliah and the eastern side of the city.

While the bridge has reopened, maintenance work continues on the damaged sections underneath. Surface-level repairs have been completed, including the replacement of bridge joints, bolts, and a fresh coat of paint on the bridge’s steel structure. Lighting installation remains one of the final tasks to be completed.

Marwan Abdul Razzaq, Media Director of Nineveh Roads and Bridges, told 964media, “The Old Bridge reopened this morning after being closed for three months. The maintenance work on the bridge’s surface is nearly complete, including joint replacements, bolt replacements, and repainting.”

He added, “Final maintenance on the damaged sections underneath the bridge will continue, including repainting and installing lighting systems after the reopening.”

The reopening of the Old Bridge is expected to ease traffic congestion on other bridges in Mosul, improving transportation efficiency across the city.
