110 desks this year
Young Najaf philanthropist donates school desks to underprivileged schools, inspiring community action
NAJAF — Laith Al-Aboudi, a 34-year-old government employee and gaming lounge owner from Kufa, Najaf, has continued his annual tradition of donating school desks to underprivileged schools in his hometown and nearby districts, marking his birthday with a charitable gesture. This year, Laith donated 110 desks, valued at nearly 4 million Iraqi dinars ($2,656).
“I aim to address the shortage of supplies in schools,” Laith told 964media. “Last year, I donated 100 desks, and this year, for my 34th birthday, I donated 110 desks. Alongside this, I use my income to fund tree planting and road repairs.”
Laith’s charitable initiatives extend beyond schools. Using a portion of his income, he regularly funds projects such as planting trees and repairing potholes in public streets, demonstrating a commitment to improving his community.
Ali Abdullah, a staff member at Ra’i Al-Islah School, expressed gratitude for the contribution. “Laith’s initiative is very helpful for us, as we face a severe shortage of desks. Today, I joined him to move the desks into our classrooms,” Abdullah said.
Parents of students also applauded Laith’s efforts. “As parents, we welcome initiatives like this from a young, conscious Najafi like Laith,” said Mohammed Al-Ghalibi, the father of one of the students. “His contribution has provided essential resources for schools in need. We hope others follow his example.”
