BAGHDAD — The body of lawyer Ahmad Abbas Kazem Al-Asadi was discovered in his office near the Kadhimiya Investigative Court on Tuesday, following his disappearance the previous evening. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear as authorities actively investigate the case.
The Iraqi Bar Association confirmed the discovery in a statement, noting that “Al-Asadi had been missing since Monday night before his body was found.” The association extended condolences to his family and colleagues, pledging “to follow up on legal procedures and assist in uncovering the details of his death.”
The association assured that “accurate details of the incident will be disclosed as soon as they are verified, with necessary investigative measures being taken by the judiciary and security agencies.”
A security source told local media that “preliminary investigations have confirmed that unidentified armed assailants stormed the lawyer’s office and shot him with handguns, resulting in his immediate death.”
The Directorate of Crime Prevention in Baghdad reported that Major General Irfan Al-Muhammadawi, the department’s director, is “personally overseeing the investigation to determine the circumstances of the lawyer’s murder.” The exact details of the incident will be released once the investigation is complete.
