Chess club players compete in Oma open championship
DHI QAR, September 15 — Sixteen players from the Al-Qithara Chess Club in Dhi Qar participated in the Oma Open Chess Championship on Friday, where participants would be selected for the upcoming Abadan International Championship.
Haider Abdulghani, the club’s president, spoke 964, stating, “The championship is aimed at revitalizing the players after a long break from playing due to the Arbaeen pilgrimage.”
“The tournament is internationally recognized and involved 16 players in five rounds following the Rapid chess system, which allocates a specific time for each player’s moves,” he added.
“Players from the club will also participate in the Abadan International Championship scheduled for September 27, followed by the Arabian Gulf Championship in Kuwait. These rounds serve as motivation and mental stimulation for them in preparation for these competitions,” Abdulghani said.
The first round concluded with Jafar Shlaka in first place, followed by Mohammad Jassim in second place, and Hussein Ahmed in third place.
