Rawanduz authorities target unregistered motorcycles to curb noise, disruptions
RAWANDUZ — Authorities in Rawanduz have launched a crackdown on unregistered and disruptive motorcycles following public complaints, District Commissioner Ahmed Qadir said.
Qadir told 964media that a special committee comprising traffic police, security forces and local police was formed last week to address the issue. “Starting last night, we began operations to seize unregistered and disruptive motorcycles,” he said.
He confirmed that four motorcycles were confiscated overnight and that the campaign would continue. “During the past period, we received many complaints from residents about disturbances caused by motorcycles. Now that it is Ramadan, people need peace, so we are taking action,” Qadir added.
Residents have voiced concerns about motorcycles creating excessive noise, emitting smoke and being driven recklessly. Qadir acknowledged that many residents rely on motorcycles for work, saying authorities would ensure traffic regulations are properly enforced.
Rawanduz is part of Erbil Governorate, under the Soran Autonomous Administration. The area is known for its tourist attractions, including Bekhal and Shinglbana.
