Officials expect a record-breaking year

Duhok expects surge in tourists, welcomes 1.8 million visitors since start of 2023

DUHOK, September 14 — The Directorate of Tourism in Duhok announced on Thursday that approximately 1.8 million tourists have visited the city and its surroundings since the beginning of the current year, with expectations that the number will surpass 2.5 million tourists by the end of 2o23.

Rewan Mohammed Rashid, a spokesperson for Duhok’s Tourism Department, stated: “We are in continuous communication with tourism companies in the region, as well as in central and southern Iraq, and Turkey to attract tourists to our governorate.”

“The number of tourists visiting the governorate has been steadily increasing year after year. In 2021, there were around 1.5 million tourists, and in 2022, the number rose to 2.5 million tourists. Expectations for this year are even higher.”

“Duhok Governorate currently boasts approximately 900 licensed tourist sites, including industrial tourist sites, along with more than 250 natural tourist attractions.”
