KDP media accuse the PKK of firing the shell
Shell lands near Peshmerga position in Amedi village, injuring one
AMEDI – A shell landed near a Peshmerga position in the village of Sargale in Amedi, Duhok governorate, injuring a civilian, a local security source told 964media on condition of anonymity.
The Peshmerga are the military forces of the Kurdistan Region, responsible for maintaining its security.
The injured individual, a truck driver, was taken to Amedi Hospital. Masoud Boti, Deputy Director of Amedi Health, confirmed, “Yes, we received one injured person, but he is a civilian, not a Peshmerga. He is a truck driver who was in the area and got injured.”
Since Tuesday morning, loud explosions and gunfire have been heard near the surrounding villages of Amedi, where a Turkish base is located nearby.
Several witnesses sent videos to 964media showing smoke rising from a hill as a result of the shell impact. The origin of the shell fire is yet to be determined. But pro-Kurdistan Democratic Party media have claimed the shell was fired at the Peshmerga position by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party guerrillas.
Turkey is conducting a large-scale military operation in the Duhok governorate against the PKK, leading to the evacuation of several villages. The PKK, an armed Kurdish organization, has been in conflict with the Turkish state over Kurdish rights since the early 1980s.
