Speeding blamed

One dead, six injured in Basra car crash

BASRA — A police officer was killed and six others were injured in a traffic collision on the Qurna-Basra Road in Al-Shafi sub-district, north of the Basra governorate, a security source reported.

The incident involved a white Hyundai Santa Fe and a black Hyundai Sonata. “The accident was caused by the high speed and loss of control by the Santa Fe driver, who was heading towards Qurna,” the source told 964media.

According to the report, the Santa Fe crossed into the opposing lane and collided with the Sonata, which was traveling toward Basra. The impact caused both vehicles to skid off the road and overturn.

The crash resulted in the death of the Santa Fe driver, identified as a police officer, and injuries to the driver of the Sonata and his six family members.
