41 newborns rescued from fire at Al-Zahra maternity hospital in Najaf

NAJAF — A fire broke out in the newborn ward at Al-Zahra Hospital for Children and Maternity in central Najaf on Tuesday morning.

Najaf Civil Defense teams managed to rescue all 41 newborns from the ward.

Ali Tawij, an official from the Civil Defense media department in Najaf, told 964media, “The hospital ward was evacuated swiftly, and all newborns were safely rescued by the civil defense teams.” He confirmed that all the babies are in good health.

“There were no casualties as a result of the incident, and we managed to control the fire within the maternity ward,” Tawij added.

Tawij did not provide any details on the cause of the fire, which is yet to be officially determined by Najaf authorities.
