Over two decades since last journey
Public bus service returns to Penjwen thanks to local resident
PENJWEN — For the first time in over two decades, a public bus service has been reintroduced in Sulaymaniyah’s Penjwen district, thanks to a local resident’s initiative.
Zanyar Aziz, a young resident of Penjwen, purchased a bus and proposed its use as a public transportation line within the district.
“Initially, I bought the bus, and a friend suggested using it as a public transportation line within Penjwen, as there are no existing public transportation lines in the district. So I accepted his proposal,” Aziz told 964media.
“Due to the absence of any public transportation buses in Penjwen, I wanted to integrate it into my life. I started the necessary procedures and formally initiated the service with approval from the Sulaymaniyah Traffic Directorate,” he explained.
Penjwen Qaymaqam Zana Rahman informed 964media, “Back in the early 2000s, there were two buses operating in Penjwen, but they ceased operations, and no bus line has existed since then.”
“Last week, a young man requested to establish a bus line within Penjwen. All the necessary work has been completed at the district office. In our view, public transportation is both affordable and hassle-free,” Rahman stated.
The bus route will cover three main areas: Upper Penjwen, Lower Penjwen, and Rawgan neighborhood, with a fare of 500 dinars (approximately $0.38) per person.
