Potholes and damage caused traffic issues
Youth volunteers restore concrete bridge and road in Basra
BASRA, September 5 — A team of youth volunteers in Basra’s Al-Madina district took the initiative to repair a fence and potholes of a concrete bridge that connects the banks of the Euphrates River.
The team’s leader, Murtadha Hussein, told 964: “Potholes were causing traffic disruptions on the concrete Al-Madina bridge due to its age and overdue maintenance. Our volunteer team took it upon ourselves to maintain this vital bridge, connecting the Al-Madina district with Al-Haweer and Al-Sadiq districts, as well as serving as a passage to the oil fields.”
“The maintenance work included filling the potholes on the bridge with asphalt obtained through collaboration with the municipalities of Al-Madina and Al-Haweer. Additionally, the team repaired and addressed openings in the bridge’s metal fence,” he said.
“Our work serves as a message to the citizens that maintaining public services is everyone’s responsibility, not just that of the relevant authorities,” Hussein added.
