Dana Gas announces that natural gas production at the Khor Mor field has stabilized
ERBIL — UAE-based Dana Gas has announced that natural gas production at the Kormor field has returned to normal, reaching a daily output of 500 million cubic feet.
The company stated that production resumed following the implementation of enhanced security measures by the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Baghdad government.
Dana Gas affirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest safety and security standards for all personnel and facilities.
“We are proud to serve the people of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, supporting the country’s electricity generation by providing local power stations with affordable and lower-carbon fuel and meeting the LPG needs of the Kurdistan region,” the company said.
Following a drone attack on the Kormor gas field last Friday, which resulted in the deaths of four Yemeni workers, the Ministry of Natural Resources reported a loss of 2,500 megawatts of electricity in the region. However, 1,600 megawatts were subsequently supplied through alternative sources.
At the time, Umed Ahmed, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Electricity, told 964media that the region could produce about 7,000 megawatts of electricity. Yet, due to a lack of necessary gas and the recent attack, production was between 3,500 and 4,000 megawatts.
Meanwhile, the Iraqi Minister of Electricity, Engineer Ziyad Ali Fadel, met with Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani in Erbil to discuss the state of the nation’s electrical system and ongoing infrastructure projects in the electricity sector. The discussions also touched on continuing cooperation between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government regarding the recent attacks.
The attacks led to power outages in several Iraqi cities and impacted the electricity supply in others.
Both parties agreed to maintain communication and coordination to develop the country’s electricity sector and ensure reliable and sustainable energy supplies for citizens.
