Schools showcase athletic prowess

Annual sports gala held in Wasit

AL-KUT — Amid columns of green and red colored smoke, school students in Iraq’s southern Wasit province marched to the rhythm of music, proudly waving Iraqi flags and flowers, marking the inauguration ceremony of the annual sports competition in the province.

Organized by the Wasit Directorate of Education’s School Sports Department, the annual sports showcase featured numerous schools from Al-Kut city and surrounding districts. The event, which celebrated educational sports achievements, also included the recognition of leaders in the educational sports and scouting movements within the province.

Nawar Al-Qutbi, head of the School Sports Department, told 964media that the event encompassed approximately 170 schools from the central Al-Kut area, catering to both male and female students across various educational stages.

The showcase featured artistic performances by several schools and the finals of track and field events for boys in middle and high schools. In the middle school category, Al-Mujtaba Middle School and Muhammad bin Al-Hanafiya Middle School emerged as the champions, while Al-Kut High School for Boys secured first place in the high school category, showcasing their remarkable athletic prowess.

At the Wasit Directorate of Education’s annual sports showcase, 25 pioneers in sports and scouting were also honored for their contributions to the educational movements in the province. The event included a display of images of the honorees, commemorating their dedication to promoting sports and scouting among youth.
