Search continues for missing persons after Duhok floods

DUHOK — Search efforts continue for two individuals missing after being swept away by floodwaters in Duhok on March 19, according to civil defense officials.

Heavy rain caused flash flooding early that morning, which surged through a tunnel in the Nizarki neighborhood. The missing, identified as two men in their 30s or 40s working in Duhok as laborers, were reportedly carried away by the floodwaters.

“Our team is continuously searching for them,” said Bewar Abdulaziz, a spokesperson for Duhok’s Civil Defense, speaking to 964media.

He added that recovery efforts are being hampered by debris, including rocks and trees, scattered throughout the flooded areas.

One other person reportedly died from electrocution during the flooding.
