Project targets companies' CSR initiatives

Environmental partnership to expand Erbil’s urban green spaces

ERBIL — Erbil’s environment directorate announced on Tuesday a partnership with Korek Telecom to establish a new park in the city’s Daratu area. The initiative is part of a broader greenery project aimed at promoting environmental responsibility among businesses.

The project encourages companies and factories with industrial operations to contribute to environmental conservation efforts by establishing green spaces.

Dilshad Hirani, director of Erbil’s environment directorate, told 964media that Korek Telecom, a major player in the Kurdistan Region’s telecommunications sector, will be responsible for developing the new park.

The park, named New Life, will span 8,500 square meters and contribute to Erbil’s urban green spaces.

Representatives from both the environment directorate and Korek Telecom met with officials from the Daratu municipality to discuss the project’s implementation.

Hirani said the greenery project extends to any company erecting telecommunications towers within Erbil. He revealed plans for a similar project with another telecommunications company, Fastlink. Additionally, discussions are underway to involve AsiaCell and Newroz in the initiative.
