Muqtada Al-Sadr visits Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani
NAJAF – Muqtada Al-Sadr, the leader of the Sadrist Movement, paid a visit to Grand Ayatollah Ali Al-Sistani at his residence on Rasool Street in central Najaf on Monday evening.
A source from Al-Sadr’s office told 964media that he visited the prominent religious figure, Al-Sistani, after breaking the fast.
“The visit lasted about half an hour,” added the source without providing further details.
Al-Sistani, a cleric and jurist of Iranian origin, is the most prominent Shia religious authority in Iraq. He has gained widespread recognition for his significant influence in Iraq, particularly after the 2003 regime change, during which he played a pivotal role in various political transitions.
Amid debates surrounding impending parliamentary elections in Iraq, speculation has arisen regarding the potential involvement of the Sadrist movement.
It remains uncertain whether Al-Sadr’s presence in Najaf signifies groundwork for the Movement’s renewed participation in the Iraqi political process following its boycott in late 2022.
