Five injured in Koya-Erbil Road crash involving three vehicles

KOYA — A crash involving three vehicles on the Koya-Erbil Road injured five people on Monday, according to local authorities.

Sangar Salah, head of Koya traffic police, told 964media the crash occurred around noon near Tawakal village when a vehicle traveling from Erbil to Koya lost control at high speed and collided with a taxi and and another passenger car .

“All injured individuals were transferred to nearby hospitals,” Salah said, adding that an investigation into the incident is underway.

Eyewitness Jegir Karim told 964media he arrived at the scene shortly after the crash and saw ambulances transferring the victims to hospitals in Erbil.

A German military team happened to be passing through the area at the time of the crash and stopped to provide first aid to the injured. Germany is part of the U.S.-led coalition supporting Iraqi and Kurdish forces in the fight against the Islamic State group and maintains a presence in the Kurdistan Region.

This marks the second traffic accident on the same stretch of road in the past three days, with a total of 10 people injured across both incidents.
