Asian archery championship to open in Baghdad with 24 teams vying for titles

BAGHDAD — The anticipation is high as the Al-Shaab International Stadium complex in Baghdad prepares to host the Asian Archery Championship for men and women, starting Tuesday. The prestigious event features 24 teams from different Asian countries.

Saad Al-Mashhadani, President of the Iraqi Archery Federation, said participating nations included Palestine, Kuwait, Yemen, the United Arab Emirates, Taiwan, Malaysia, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Jordan, Nepal, Iran, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Syria, Tajikistan, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, and Kyrgyzstan. Notably, three Arab teams from Africa – Egypt, Sudan, and Mauritania – were granted special permission by the International Archery Federation to participate, using the event as a qualifying opportunity for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The official technical conference for the championship is scheduled for Tuesday morning, followed by the grand opening ceremony at the tennis stadium in the evening.
