Kurdistan region witnesses surge in tourist numbers
ERBIL, August 19 — The Kurdistan region welcomed five million visitors during the first half of 2023, and officials expect to achieve a new record with the continued influx of visitors from central and southern Iraq.
Amal Jalal, President of the Kurdistan region’s tourism board, told 964: “The number of tourists in the Kurdistan region during the first half of this year reached around five million, and it is expected to reach eight million by the end of this year.”
“Most of the tourists visiting the Kurdistan Region are from central and southern Iraq.”
According to statistics from the tourism board, the region received a total of four million tourists in 2021, and six million in 2022.
