Project includes parks and recreation areas

Kut anticipates completion of Corniche project to relieve city congestion

WASIT, August 19 — Residents of Al-Kut are closely monitoring the progress of the Temmuz Corniche project, with hopes of its imminent opening, as the project aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the city and provide recreational spaces and public parks.

The project is nearing completion after six months of paving, furnishing, and lighting works. The local municipality has emphasized that the service and recreation project will facilitate city traffic and ease bottlenecks. It will also connect the city center to the Kut-Amara Road to the east.

Ali Abd Siwan, Director of Al-Kut Municipality, told 964: “The Temmuz Corniche is one of the significant projects in Al-Kut, serving both recreational and service purposes.”

“The cost of the project exceeded 10 billion dinars, covering asphalt, concrete, and finishing works…The project stretches for six kilometers, extending from the Zahraa intersection in the city center to the Minar intersection to the east,” he added. “This road will alleviate traffic congestion in the city center’s streets and intersections, such as the Temmuz, Mutanabbi, Nasij, Hura, and Zahraa intersections.”

Local resident Sajjad Hassan said: “Throughout the past, peak hours in the morning and noon witnessed traffic congestion in the city center, especially at the Temmuz, Mutanabbi, and Zahraa intersections, with no alternative routes for vehicles.”

“The Temmuz Corniche Road presents a good solution as it serves as a bypass route within the city. It directly connects several areas to the city center and the University of Wasit,” he added.
