Presidency threatens legal action

Iraqi presidency denies claim that President Rashid requested a visit to Washington

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s presidency issued a stern denial on Tuesday regarding a media report that President Abdul Latif Rashid had requested to visit the United States, warning of legal action against the television program and its host.

The presidency issued a statement claiming satellite channel Al-Sharqiya aired “misleading information” on a program that falsely stated Rashid had requested to visit the U.S. capital.

We clarify that no such request was made by the president,” the statement said.

The release went on to state it would reserve its right to take legal action against the allegations, demanding the show’s host provide evidence or documentation to support the claim.
