Wasit provincial council elects new president, re-elects governor

WASIT, February 5 — Members of the Wasit provincial council reaffirmed their confidence in Governor Jameel Al-Mayahi on Monday, re-electing him for a second term.

Members also unanimously selected Ali Hussein Sulayman as council president and Ms. Wanis Al-Shammari as vice president.

Al-Mayahi was elected governor for his first term in 2018 and succeeded Mahmoud Abdul Ridha, who won a seat in parliament.
