Semel authorities seize expired tobacco products

DUHOK – Authorities in the Duhok’s Semel district have seized more than 1,200 kilograms (over 2,645 pounds) of expired hookah tobacco from a local factory in the Faidi area.

The seizure was part of an effort to curb the factory’s practice of repackaging expired products for sale.

During a visit on Thursday, Semel teams found the facility was processing and repackaging expired tobacco with new expiration dates for redistribution in the local market.

Shaswar Arif Mohammed, a commercial monitoring official in Semel, told 964media, “The factory has been closed, and it will face financial penalties. We are pursuing legal action against the owner.”
