Drone crashes in Nabiawa village, Altun Kupri sub-district
ALTUN KUPRI, January 30 — A drone crashed this evening in the village of Nabiawa, Altun Kupri sub-district, without causing any damage.
A Kirkuk Police source informed 964media that police and security forces were dispatched to the Nabiawa crash site following a local’s report of the drone’s remains. The drone is reported to have crashed earlier in the day.
The source revealed preliminary findings suggest the drone caught fire mid-air before crashing to the ground. Currently, the launch origin and intended destination of the drone remain unknown.
Investigations continue to determine the details surrounding the incident.
The strategic significance of Altun Kupri, located on the Erbil–Kirkuk road near the Little Zab River, has made it a focal point in regional conflicts. Historically, the town has experienced various security incidents due to its critical position. Recent incidents include a deadly Islamic State attack in May 2021, Iranian missile and drone attacks in September 2022 targeting Iranian opposition groups, and a counter-IS operation by Iraqi Special Operations Forces in September 2021.
