Firefighters control blaze at Gwer refinery after eight hours

GWER, January 30 — Firefighters managed to control a fire at a refinery in Makhmur after nearly eight hours on Tuesday.

Erbil civil defense forces responded to the fire in Gwer sub-district, the second incident at the same facility, bringing questions of safety protocols at the site.

Civil defense spokesperson Karwan Mirawdali confirmed that two refinery employees and one firefighter were injured in the incident.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
