Young duo found in Sulaymaniyah after suspected kidnapping

SULAYMANIYAH, January 29 — Security forces in Sulaymaniyah have found two young people from Dhi Qar governorate, previously reported missing and feared kidnapped, after a four-hour search.

The investigation, launched by Sulaymaniyah authorities following a police report filed by the individuals’ father in Dhi Qar, led to their discovery. The father had reported their sudden disappearance, raising concerns of a possible abduction.

Authorities determined that the pair had joined a tourist group to travel to Sulaymaniyah and were staying in a local hotel. Authorities say they revealed under interrogation that they had taken 35 million Iraqi Dinars from their father and deliberately fled from him.

The two are now detained and face legal action.
