KRG commission for human rights launches awareness campaign

ERBIL, January 29 – The Independent Commission for Human Rights has launched a campaign to promote human rights awareness in schools throughout the Kurdistan Region. Beginning in Erbil, the initiative aims to reach all 6,500 schools in the region by distributing educational posters.

Mona Yaqo, the head of the commission, explained to 964media, “These posters are designed to educate students about their rights and the importance of speaking out against violations, helping them to avoid becoming victims.”

The campaign extends beyond mere poster distribution, incorporating seminars and discussions for active engagement. This approach is intended to help students become well-versed in their rights and to prevent marginalization under any circumstances.

The primary focus of the campaign is on elementary schools across the region.

Yaqo announced that the commission plans to sustain this effort by regularly visiting schools and educating students, a commitment they have been upholding annually.
