Roving health teams provide essential services in rural Qandil
QANDIL, January 29 – Shahid Haji Ahmad Hospital in the Qandil Mountains has been deploying roving health teams to villages two or three times monthly for several years, providing essential medical care in an area where local clinics have shuttered.
Since 2012, financial crises have forced the closure of health clinics in villages such as Zargeli, Qrnaqaw u Pshtashan, Inze, Rezge, and Marado by the Kurdistan Regional Government, a local official stated.
Situated in the village of Bokriskan, Shahid Haji Ahmad Hospital, the sole healthcare facility in the vicinity, caters to about 60 surrounding villages. The hospital and its roving teams are supported by the Qandil municipality, which supplies medications and necessary provisions.
“The hospital and mobile teams rely on municipal funds and donations for all their necessities,” Dilshir Ibrahim, co-mayor of the municipality, told 964media. He further mentioned that approximately $30,000 is allocated monthly for medical supplies and medications for both the hospital and its teams.
Ibrahim also indicated that patients requiring more advanced care are referred to hospitals in Pshdar and Ranya, adding, “This arrangement is supported by the Ranya health directorate.”
Last year, around 4,000 citizens received free medical treatment at Shahid Haji Ahmad Hospital, according to data the hospital provided to 964media.
