Transport minister instructs flag carrier to repatriate stranded citizens
BAGHDAD, January 26 — Iraqi Transport Minister Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi has instructed national flag carrier Iraqi Airways to aid in the repatriation of Iraqi citizens stranded in Saudi Arabia.
The directive is in response to the suspension of Fly Baghdad flights due to U.S. sanctions, ensuring affected passengers have a means to return home.
Statement:
Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi, who oversees the General Company for Iraqi Airways, ordered the airline to coordinate the repatriation of Iraqi nationals from Saudi Arabia in collaboration with relevant authorities. The operation aims to ensure the safety and dignity of the passengers.
The minister stressed the importance of mobilizing all available resources and hastening the planning and execution of the repatriation effort, working in tandem with the airline’s international offices.
It is important to note that the return of numerous Iraqi passengers from Saudi Arabia on Fly Baghdad-operated flights has been halted following sanctions imposed by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
