Supports complaint to UNSC

Iraq’s Parliament condemns U.S. airstrikes on Babil and Anbar

BAGHDAD, January 24 — Iraq’s Parliament condemned United States airstrikes on Anbar and Babil on Wednesday, and affirmed its support for the government’s decision to file an official complaint with the United States Security Council regarding what it called a “violation of Iraqi sovereignty.”

A statement issued by Parliament said:

The Presidency of the House of Representatives condemns the American attack on security headquarters in Babil and Anbar, expressing strong disapproval of the continued blatant violation of Iraqi sovereignty and the disregard for international and bilateral agreements by the United States.

We reiterate our call to the government to expedite implementation of the parliamentary decision to completely withdraw foreign forces from the country. Their presence now threatens the security and stability of Iraq and the safety of its people. We consider any delay in its enforcement a clear violation of legislation and popular will. The sovereignty of Iraq and the blood of its people are red lines that cannot be crossed.

Here, we affirm that the House of Representatives supports the government’s initiative to file an official complaint with the international Security Council regarding the repeated American violations within Iraqi territory.
