Basra at 46°C with six governorates in the 30s

BAGHDAD — Basra is forecast at 46°C on Wednesday, the highest in Iraq, while Sulaymaniyah and Duhok stay coolest at 35°C, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology said.

Erbil is expected at 37°C, Kirkuk and Nineveh 38°C and Anbar 39°C. Salah al-Din is forecast at 40°C, Baghdad, Diyala and Babil 41°C, Karbala and Wasit 42°C, Diwaniyah and Najaf 44°C, and Maysan, Muthanna and Dhi Qar 45°C.

Skies will be mostly clear with scattered cloud over western parts of the south, and temperatures close to Tuesday’s. Northwesterly winds are forecast at 10 to 20 km/h, turning light and variable at 5 to 10 km/h overnight with calm periods. Visibility will be 8 to 10 km, falling to 5 to 7 km at night in haze.

Temperatures rise slightly on Thursday, with Basra at 47°C and Maysan, Dhi Qar and Muthanna at 46°C.
