Zakho opens first international book fair with 60 publishers from 10 countries
ZAKHO — The first international book fair in Zakho administration, Duhok, opened Monday, bringing together more than 60 publishing houses and bookstores from 10 countries for a six-day event at Zakho University.
The fair, held in the university’s exhibition hall, includes participants from Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria and Iraq. Organizers say the event is the first of its kind in Zakho and is designed to establish the city as a regular stop on the region’s cultural calendar.
Kovan Hussein, the event’s organizer, told 964media, “We are very happy to organize a project like this in Zakho for the first time. We expect a good turnout of readers and are fully prepared to serve the people of Kurdistan during these six days.”
Hussein said tens of thousands of titles in Kurdish, Arabic, English and other languages are on display, covering literature, culture, linguistics and history. “We expect a large number of visitors,” he added.
Awab Jaziry, owner of a publishing house in Duhok, said the fair feels different from previous events held elsewhere.
“This time we’re hosting it in our own city,” he said, praising the organizers for bringing an international fair to Zakho for the first time.
