A woman in her 60s

Dhi Qar reports hemorrhagic fever death as cases rise nationwide

DHI QAR— Dhi Qar health authorities reported the governorate’s first death from hemorrhagic fever this year. The deceased was a woman in her 60s from Al-Rifai district in northern Dhi Qar.

A local medical source told 964media that the woman was transferred to the isolation ward at Al-Hussein Teaching Hospital in Nasiriyah on Tuesday after her condition deteriorated.

Hemorrhagic fever is a viral infection transmitted through contact with infected animals or their meat, as well as through tick bites. The disease has become a recurring concern in Iraq, especially in agricultural regions where human-animal contact is frequent.

Tests confirmed she was infected with the hemorrhagic fever virus, and she died Wednesday morning.

Health and veterinary teams visited her residence and carried out disinfection procedures in the house and surrounding area, the source said.

According to the Iraq’s Ministry of Health, over 50 cases of hemorrhagic fever have been recorded nationwide this year, with Kirkuk reporting the highest number of deaths.
Earlier this week, a 45-year-old woman from Shiladze died after contracting hemorrhagic fever, marking the first recorded death from the disease in the Kurdistan Region this year, according to health officials in Duhok.
