Iraq begins standardized testing cycle with nearly 10 million students sitting exams
BAGHDAD — Standardized examinations for non-graduating grades began across Iraq on Sunday, with nearly 10 million pupils and students taking part in the first round of the 2025–2026 academic year, the Ministry of Education said.
Primary school exams were held Saturday, with secondary-level tests beginning Sunday. Acting Minister Ahmed al-Asadi said the ministry had completed all logistical and technical preparations to provide “a suitable examination environment that ensures students’ comfort and enables them to take exams in stable conditions.”
In federal Iraq, examinations are centrally administered by the ministry, with unified questions, schedules and grading applied across all governorates. The Kurdistan Region conducts its exams separately under its own regional Ministry of Education, with distinct curricula, schedules and administration.
