Three individuals arrested for illegal logging in Sulaymaniyah

SULAYMANIYAH – Authorities in Sitak area, within the jurisdiction of the Forest and Environment Police Directorate in Sulaymaniyah, announced on Tuesday the arrest of three individuals involved in illegal tree felling.

According to an official statement, one suspect was apprehended with a three-wheeled motorcycle loaded with cut trees, while two others were caught transporting illegally felled trees using a pickup truck.

The arrests mark a daily enforcement action, as over past months several individuals had been detained for illegal logging across the governorate.

Following their arrest, the three suspects were brought before a court and legal proceedings are now underway based on the court’s rulings.

This part of ongoing operations to combat environmental violations in the Kurdistan Region. Two days ago, Forest and Environment Police in Sulaymaniyah also arrested five individuals for illegal fishing and tree-cutting.

In December, over 15 people were arrested in Sulaymaniyah governorate for their involvement in illegal logging and charcoal production.
