International paragliding event concludes with Kurdish Team taking third place

SULAYMANIYAH — An international paragliding competition in Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan Region, concluded on Saturday, drawing 120 athletes from 13 countries. The event, which spanned three days, saw competitors launch from high-altitude points and glide toward their designated landing site in the town of Arbat, located in eastern Sulaymaniyah.

The Kurdish Team claimed third place, finishing behind Mongolia and an Arab Team. Mongolian competitor Barma Bolorma won the women’s category and shared her enthusiasm with 964media. “This was my first time in Iraq. I am very happy to participate in this competition,” she said.

The award ceremony was attended by Sulaymaniyah’s sports officials and event organizers. Karwan Zirak, Director of Sports and Youth in Sulaymaniyah, praised the competition, telling 964media, “We are delighted to host such events in Sulaymaniyah. The presence of representatives from 13 countries showcases the suitability of our climate and the safety of our environment.”

He added, “This is a step toward promoting sports tourism. We aim to continue supporting such events in Sulaymaniyah.”

Kurdish Team member Hunar Qader, who also received an award, expressed optimism about future opportunities. “We secured third place and hope to participate in upcoming international championships,” Qader said.
